Walking past the library on September 18 would have been like any other day except for the fence with goats inside. With five goats inside the fence and everyone surrounding trying to pet the goat, I talked to Jayden Wintrode ‘27 about her experience with the goats.
“I was slightly nervous before goat yoga because I had no idea what to expect,” she said when asked about her emotions going into the goat yoga class. “I had seen a few videos of people who did it before and it seemed really fun so before and it seemed really fun so I was ultimately excited.”
I echoed her thoughts about the yoga prior to doing it. Having a goat on our backs was not the experience that we thought was going to happen while we were at school.
“When I heard that we were going to have goat yoga at this school, I was ecstatic, Wintrode said.
“It is something I have always wanted to do,” she added. “I was also surprised it was taking place at school, especially considering the challenge of transporting the goats.”
Yoga is defined as bringing harmony between mind and body so I asked how she felt before and after the goat yoga class. In her answer, she said, “Before the session, I was slightly anxious because I was unsure of how it would go. After yoga, we all got to take pictures with the goats on our back, which was fun. The goats were so cute and once I got there, my anxiety decreased. I ultimately kept calm and relaxed after the session.”
Based on the definition, the yoga session had worked. I also agreed that once the goats were jumping on our back, we were having a lot of fun and we would do it again.
Wintrode finalized the conversation by saying she would recommend the experience based on the fact that it is a unique fitness experience.
“I would recommend it to a friend who loves animals because the goats play a key role in that yoga practice. I would not recommend it to a friend looking for a more intense yoga class, because it was slow-paced and centered around the goats.”
I agree with this because the class was twenty minutes of yoga and the other twenty minutes were pictures and the goats climbing our backs. Overall it is an experience that I would do again and I enjoyed it a lot.
