March 20 marks the first day of spring, which means brighter days are ahead. Sunny skies call for cheerful tunes, so I’ve compiled a list of my favorite songs that simply scream “spring.” Whether you need songs to listen to on a walk outside, a drive in your car, or as study motivation, these springtime songs have got you covered.
“Pocketful of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield
A song with “sunshine” in the title is an obvious choice for a spring playlist. This song is upbeat and incredibly danceable, setting the perfect mood for a new season. This song is truly “a sweet escape” that takes you away “to better days”. Give this song a listen, it is bound to put a smile on your face and brighten your day with a little extra sunshine.
“Everywhere” by Fleetwood Mac
A huge part of the spring “aesthetic” is all of the beautiful parts of nature that begin to take full bloom. The lyrics “I want to be with you everywhere” instantly make me think of all of the gorgeous places and landscapes that the world has to offer. This combined with the wonderful vocals and magical instrumentals make this the perfect addition to a spring playlist.
“Cherry” by Harry Styles
This song has a different vibe from the rest, with a calmer and more serene tone. However, this peacefulness is why it reminds me of spring. Listening to this song transports you to a sunny spring day with a calm breeze. Although the lyrics aren’t particularly happy, the instrumentals certainly scream spring. (Plus, cherries instantly make me think of spring, even if they aren’t directly mentioned in the song.)
“Real Love Baby” by Father John Misty
This is another song with instrumentals that give such a spring vibe. Father John Misty has an incredibly calm and soothing voice, so that paired with the background track makes for a truly great song. Sweet, happy songs, especially those about love, are perfect to listen to on warm spring days for an extra boost of serotonin.
“Brighter Than the Sun” by Colbie Caillat
Imagine it’s the first warm day of spring in elementary school, and all the kids are running around on the school playground. This song is the epitome of that bright, sunny feeling. Maybe it’s due to the fact that this song was released in the early years of my schooling, but it reminds me of the joys of childhood. With lyrics like “We go together like peanuts and PayDays,” it’s simply a wholesome and happy song that’s sure to put a smile on your face this spring.
“No More Lies” by Thundercat & Tame Impala
This song might not scream “spring” from the title, but something about its fun beat reminds me of the season. I am a huge fan of Tame Impala, but was not familiar with Thundercat prior to this collaboration. However, I think that these artists’ styles blend seamlessly together, and this song was a great success in my book. I love the instrumentals in the background of this tune, and I think it would be perfect to blast in the car with the windows down on a warm spring day.
