The tradition of spring cleaning has long been used as a fresh start after the long winter months. It usually involves tasks such as deep cleaning, decluttering and refreshing your space- but how about revitalizing your life as well? You feel the most at ease when you’re on top of everything, so use these tips to take spring cleaning a step further and tidy up your life this season.
Go the Traditional Route
A great first step would be to follow through with the traditional “spring cleaning”. A clean and tidy space can put you in a much better headspace, especially if you are living in a small dorm setting. Make sure not to overwhelm yourself, though- tackle things one at a time. For instance, if you are cleaning out your closet, start with T-shirts. See if you can part with at least two, and then move on to a different article of clothing for the time being. The same goes for organizing your room- you could work through a few drawers one day, then try your desk. Spring cleaning can seem daunting, but breaking it up makes it much more manageable. Plus, you’ll feel accomplished when your space is neat and tidy.
Clean out your Camera Roll
When spring cleaning, don’t neglect your digital space. Phone storage is not cheap, and your camera roll uses more data than you may realize. Now is as good of a time as ever to go through all your photos and videos, deleting any you don’t need. In particular, check old screenshots or any duplicates. I use an app called SwipeWipe, which is free on the App Store and lets you go through your camera roll month by month. You’d be surprised how refreshing an organized phone can be.
Create a Spring Playlist
One of my favorite ways to ring in a new season is to create a seasonally appropriate playlist. This spring, take some time for yourself and listen to music that lifts your mood. You can have your playlist on blast while cleaning, studying, or enjoying a walk in nature this spring. If you need some inspiration, I compiled a list of my favorite spring tunes in our March 19 edition of The Mirror, but there are also countless playlists available for you to listen to on Spotify, Apple Music, or Youtube.
Meet with your Professors
As we have approached the halfway point of the spring semester, use this as an opportunity to check your grades to see how you are doing. Now is also a good time to go through your course content and see if you need any clarification. If you need any help on a particular topic, don’t be afraid to approach your professor via email or during office hours. They are here to help you, and receiving that explanation might be all you need for an idea to click in your mind. With finals just around the corner, don’t wait to seek out help in your courses.
The notion of spring cleaning can be an amazing way to clean up not only your physical space but your mental headspace as well. With just over a month left of this school year, these organizational tips can help you tackle the last few weeks of classes and end strong. Tidying up your life is super simple- and highly rewarding.
