Spring is in the air, which means cleaning up your spaces, spending more time outdoors and preparing for the end of the semester. This season is extremely busy with tests and projects, as the spring semester will conclude in just about a month. When you find yourself alone in the hustle and bustle of campus life and are looking for something new to listen to instead of the same old music, why not listen to a podcast?
Whenever it gets warmer outside, I start to gravitate towards listening to podcasts. The podcasts I tune into range from beauty and pop culture to personal stories and relationships. Here is a list of my top podcast recommendations to check out:
#1 “Gals on the Go” is the perfect podcast for the girlies who dream of what their future New York City apartment is going to look like. The show is a lifestyle podcast and is hosted by Influencers and OG youtubers Danielle Carolan and Brooke Miccio. The podcast features topics from their personal life including friendships, figuring out their 20’s and family to subjects about airing their life on social media, influencer brand trips, along with their “favorite” and “rec” of the week. Occasionally, the gals will have a special guest on their show to interview. I found “Gals on the Go” as a sophomore in high school and since then I have been a weekly listener as it has become my favorite podcast.
#2 “Match Made in Manhattan” feels like going out to brunch with your best friends and spilling all the tea. Hosts Katy Bellotte, Colbie Cassidy and Adam Harrison talk about their crazy lives in the Big Apple. Each of them have distinct jobs outside of their podcasting career, which they share interesting stories about. The friends have known each other a long time which is evident in their dynamic. The trio creates code names that they use for the people they go on dates with. At the end of every episode, they read a weekly fan email about a real-life scenario that someone needs help with. Each week, the email is distinctly different and the trio offers different pieces of advice. This podcast is within the “Gals on the Go” universe, as they are all city friends.
#3 “The Girls Bathroom” is a quintessential listen for a long walk outside or a dorm room deep clean. Sophia and Cinzia are best friends who get weekly write-ins, similarly to “Match Made in Manhattan”. They always get the most absurd stories sent to them that sometimes I have to question if they are real or not. They always bleep out the names of the people in the stories for privacy reasons, naming any guy who’s making them angry “Brian”. Any girl in the scenarios who they take sides with are named “Sarah”. When you are having a bad day, this is the right podcast to boost your mood.
#4 “Call Her Daddy” is hosted by “father” Alex Cooper. Every week she has a new famous celebrity on her show. The past couple episodes have ranged from TV legends such as Lauren Graham, Ellen Pompeo and Millie Bobby Brown to popstar Chappell Roan, model Winnie Harlow, activist Monica Lewinsky and media personality Kylie Kelce. It is amazing to see the progress of her career from how she started as one image and completely turned around her brand to become a big platform. Her professionalism, detailed questions and compassion makes her an engaging interviewer. Alex now has her own network called “Unwell” which features a variety of other podcasts.
#5 “A Better You” is a great podcast to spring clean your mind. Host Fernanda Ramirez talks about the hard truths of growing up and experiencing life. Topics on her recent episodes range from practicing self-love, dealing with change, navigating social outings with confidence, setting boundaries in your personal life, overcoming perfectionism, detachment issues and so much more. Fernanda’s podcast is insightful for college students to learn that the growing pains are normal, yet there is a need to push yourself to reach your fullest potential.
#6 “New Heights” is a sports podcast that tastefully mixes work life and personal life. Hosted by iconic football brothers, Jason and Travis Kelce, the podcast explores stories from their careers, football in general and the culture of sports along with their family lives. This show really took off when the Kelce brothers played each other in the 2023 Super Bowl. My favorite episodes are when Kylie Kelce joins because the dynamic between Jason, Travis and her is iconic.
All the podcasts on this list can be found on Spotify or Youtube. Whether you want to listen to the girls talking about gossip, hear dating advice, learn how to navigate your 20s, are intrigued by a celebrity, need to reinvent your life, or a football connoisseur, there is a podcast out there for you to listen to this spring.
