As the year begins to wind down, Fairfield men’s and women’s golf have begun preparing for the 2025 MAAC Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The men’s team will enter the competition playing some of their best golf of the year. Two weeks ago in the Battle at Rum Pointe, the Stags took first place in the 15-team field with a combined score of -9 (567).
The team was paced by sophomore Peter Crowe, who posted a five-under across the 36-hole event to earn an individual medal. He was subsequently named MAAC Golfer of the Week on April 2.
Then, this past Sunday and Monday, the Stags finished second in a 16-team field at the Abarta Coca-Cola Invitational. Senior Colin Summers joined Crowe as a top-10 individual finisher at the event, leading the Stags to a team score of +9. The total put them five shots back of team champion and crosstown rival Sacred Heart.
The Pioneers will likely pose the greatest challenge among conference competitors for the Stags in Florida next weekend. With the victory at the Abarta Invitational, the team has won three separate events this season, including their own Spring Break Invitational where the Stags finished seventh.
On the other hand, the women’s team has been busy in preparation for the conference championship, playing three tournaments in 14 days from March 24 to April 6. Their best performance came in the middle of this stretch, a fourth-place performance in the nine-team field of the Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay.
Senior Julia Rabadam finished in the top 10 to lead the Stags, posting a score of +23 across three rounds of play. Five other Stags all finished within six shots of Rabadam, contributing to a final team score of +97.
In the bookends of the two week stretch, the Stags finished seventh in a 10-team field at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va., and 13th in a 17-team field at the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway, N.J.
The 2025 MAAC Championship is set for April 17-19 at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course. Both the men’s and women’s team champions will automatically qualify for NCAA Regionals. The highest-placing players in both competitions will receive the McLeod Trophy and their own invites to the individual regionals.
