Summer break has snuck up on us- long hours of class, studying and extracurriculars will soon turn into days full of free time in the sun. If you’re looking for some ideas on how to fill your schedule this summer, I’ve got you covered with a creative yet attainable bucket list. Just like the lists you’d create with your friends back in elementary school, I’ve included arts and crafts, day trips, and other fun activities to induce some nostalgia this season.
Plan a Beach Day
A classic for a reason- nothing screams summer like a beach day with your friends. Make sure to do it all: soak up the sun, surf the waves, collect seashells and explore the coastline. The beach is great for any kind of vibe you’re going for, as you can make your experience as calm and relaxing or as fun and energetic as you want. I’d recommend planning your trip at least a few days in advance– nothing is more stressful than trying to throw everything in the car and coordinate with friends at the last minute.
Have a Picnic
Picnics are one of the sweetest and most wholesome summertime gatherings. Bring your favorite snacks and drinks, a big blanket and all your best friends. You could even go a step further and have a themed picnic, where everyone brings items of the same color or starting with the same letter. A picnic can also make a fabulous photo op– you can make an aesthetic setup with flowers and dress cute.
Make Friendship Bracelets
I know this was a big ticket item on your summer bucket list at age eight, so why not bring it back this summer? YouTube has endless tutorials on how to make all sorts of fun bracelets out of different kinds of strings and beads. Experiment with different colors and patterns. Once you get the gist of it, the act becomes second nature, and you can make bracelets while you watch a movie or listen to music.
Wake up for the Sunrise
Now, I know most of us aren’t morning people, but I highly recommend waking up early to watch the sunrise at least once this summer. There is something so serene about admiring a beautiful sky while most of the world is still asleep. Personally, I love a beach sunrise, but you can also get a stunning view in a field or at a lake. Make sure to snap a few pictures, too!
Trip to an Amusement Park
Channel your inner child this summer and plan a visit to an amusement park with friends. The thrilling roller coasters, fun carnival games and tasty treats make for an action-packed day trip. I’m a big fan of Six Flags, but check out different parks near you. There is so much you can do in one day at an amusement park, and you’ll definitely make some amazing memories.
Create a Summer Scrapbook
As summer progresses, a great way to keep all your memories in one place is to make a scrapbook to document them. Pinterest has plenty of inspiration for this craft, but the best part is that you can make it entirely your own. Add all your favorite photos and keepsakes from the summer, and decorate your scrapbook with glitter, stickers, and captions.
This summer, relive a slice of childhood by making a bucket list of fun activities to do and things to make. Use the summer as a time to kick back and enjoy the company of your friends and family after a school year of hard work. You don’t need to spend a ton of money or do extensive planning to have a great summer– just think back to things you used to enjoy doing as a kid and implement those for a little extra joy.
