A busy week of soccer saw the Stags take on Quinnipiac and Siena, before they face Marist tonight on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at home at 7 p.m.
The Stags’ record currently stands at 8-1-1, 3-0-1.
This upcoming game against Marist marks another Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup for the Stags.
The Red Foxes’ record is 4-5-2, 3-0-2. They come into this matchup against the Stags off a 3-1 win against Niagara.
Marist sophomore Gabby Tirado scored two goals in the game, adding to her total of six goals and sixteen points so far this season.
Looking at the teams’ history over the past ten years, Fairfield holds the advantage with a 4-3-3 record against the Red Foxes.
Their last matchup handed the Stags’ Head Coach David Barrett his 300th career win, with a 3-0 victory. All three goals were scored in the first half by seniors Maddy Theriault, and Alex Darcy and Caroline Kelly ‘25.
Sophomore Ashlyn Walsh shared her thoughts on the upcoming matchup: “On Wednesday, we’re aiming to be more dynamic and execute better in the final third. As long as we maintain an attacking mindset while limiting their opportunities, it will be a solid game!”
Walsh leads the team with seven assists so far this season, adding to her total of 11 points.
Fairfield’s unbeaten conference run puts them in a strong position in their MAAC title defence, but with several teams in contention, the race for the top seeds remains wide open.
From the past week, the Stags recorded a draw against Quinnipiac and a win versus Siena.
The Quinnipiac matchup finished 1-1, with sophomore Ashley McMahon opening up the scoring in the 80th minute, thanks to an assist from Payton Zaun ‘29, her fourth of the season.
The Bobcats levelled the game with 40 seconds to go, ending the Stags’ win streak of six games, the second highest in the nation at the time. The draw, however, kept Fairfield unbeaten in the MAAC.
The Stags followed with a 1-0 victory last Saturday against Siena on Lessing Field in another conference game.
Emilie Cook ‘26 scored the only goal of the game in the 73rd minute, with a goal that looped over Siena goalkeeper Cate Burns’ reach. The goal was assisted by McMahon, bringing her total to three assists this season. She totals 11 points, placing her joint-second on the team with Ashlyn Walsh ‘28, behind Maddy Theriault ‘26 on 16 points.
Fairfield senior goalkeeper Katie Wright was only called into action twice in the game, recording her fourth shutout of the season, and 21st of her career. Her save percentage now stands at .794.
This win for the Stags reflected their strong performances against the Saints over the past ten years, with the record between the two teams now standing at 7-2-2.
Walsh further reflected on the game, saying that the team “was very successful in keeping the ball and getting forward against Siena, but [they’re] still looking to learn from that game and bring a sharper performance to Marist.”
Fairfield continued to extend its home game winning streak to 21 games, the longest active streak across the country at Division I level. This next matchup against Marist will provide the Stags with another opportunity to extend this run.
