Women’s soccer remains unbeaten within Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play as they go into their next game this afternoon at 4 p.m. on Lessing Field against Mount St Mary’s.
The Stags enter this matchup following a goalless draw against Marist last Wednesday and a 2-1 road win over Canisius. Their overall record now stands at 9-1-2, 4-0-2.
Their 14 points within the MAAC place them in third place, one point away from Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart, who are joint-first on 15 points.
This upcoming fixture against Mount St. Mary’s will provide the Stags another opportunity to add to their points total in the conference.
Historically, the Stags have the upper hand against the Mountaineers with a 4-0 record, with their last result ending in a 1-0 win. The eventual winner of the game came in the second half from forward Maddy Theriault ‘26.
They currently have a 3-8-1, 1-5-1 record heading into this fixture against the Stags.
The Mountaineers enter this evening’s game off the back of a 1-0 loss to Sacred Heart University (SHU). Mount St. Mary’s sophomore goalkeeper Abigail Makela recorded a career-high nine saves, but was unable to keep out a rebounded shot in the first half, giving SHU the win. Mountaineer senior Kaitlin Hansen leads the team with 14 points, made up of four goals and four assists.
This game marks another conference matchup for the two teams, with each game proving more and more crucial for MAAC standings as the season progresses.
The 0-0 draw against Marist last Wednesday on Lessing Field kept Fairfield’s unbeaten conference run going. The Stags recorded 30 shots on goal – the largest amount so far this season – but were unable to convert any chances, resulting in a draw.
Fairfield travelled away to Canisius on Saturday and collected a 2-1 win, strengthening their position within the conference. Both goals came in the first half from sophomore Ashley McMahon and senior Jess Lynskey, with the latter recording her first career goal. McMahon’s goal was her fifth of the season, adding to her 13 points this year. She has recorded a point in seven of her last eight appearances.
Fairfield goalkeeper Katie Wright earned herself a 49th career win, which moved her into joint-first place in program history with career victories.
Head Coach David Barrett reflected on the win, saying that the team “obviously need to still clean things up” but was “happy to get three points today.”
With several conference games remaining, the Stags will look to maintain their unbeaten conference run as they continue their MAAC championship defence campaign.
