The air is crisp, the leaves are changing and October is officially winding down. That can only mean one thing: mid-term season is in full swing. If you haven’t locked in yet, it is now time. As deadlines appear and tests come about, students can be found tucked away in various spots on campus. But what does your campus study spot say about you? I am here to tell you!
The Library
The DiMenna-Nyselius Library is a classic spot to grab a whiteboard, read your textbooks and lock in. Around mid-term and finals season, you will often find many students in the library. It can get quite crowded at times. The basement of the library is one of my favorite places to study. If you are a basement dweller, like me, this means you are all about focus and solitude. The basement of the library allows no room for window distractions or bright lights. If this is your go-to spot, you are probably someone who finds peace in routine, someone low-key and calm.
If you prefer the top floor of the library, you thrive in lively environments. The top floor is always very quiet and you enjoy that, but you also love to look out the window and take in the bright natural light. Your vibe is focused, but never frantic. You like to plan ahead, making to-do lists before locking in for the day. You also probably enjoy studying alone, but don’t mind the other students doing the same thing.
The BCC Dunkin’
If your preferred study spot is the Dunkin’ in the Barone Campus Center (BCC), you do not get distracted easily. This spot, especially in the morning, is always crowded with coffee lovers and friendly conversation. If you can lock in here, you thrive in chaos. A lively environment is your perfect cup of tea to get your study on. You probably are a social butterfly and love talking to new people. You are also great at multitasking and can get work done everywhere at any time.
Campus Ministry
If you enjoy studying in Campus Ministry, you are the opposite of the BCC Dunkin’ folks. You thrive in quiet, comfy environments where the only distraction is the illuminating fish tank. You value peace, comfort and spirituality. In terms of personality, you are probably introverted and empathic. You are the type of person who always checks in on their friends and makes sure everyone is having a good time. You value personal relationships and take a gentle approach to life.
Bannow Science Tables
If the Bannow science tables are your preferred study spot, you are most likely a STEM major. You have probably battled an organic chemistry or physics class once in your life and are so glad it’s over with. You are definitely academically driven and thrive on perfect test grades. You are a hard worker and can often be found locked in. However, the science tables can be a great spot for socializing, and you take advantage of that. You love bonding with fellow STEM students over the joint struggles of difficult classes. You might be a little disorganized, but to you, it all makes sense. Even though you are probably studying 24/7, it will all be worth it in the end, and you know that.
Your Dorm/Room
Some people thrive best when they are in the comfort of their own room, and if that is you, you are probably someone who values familiar and personal space. You feel most grounded when you are in your own space, with no strangers, no distractions. You might like studying at your desk, which is filled with personal touches, like photos of family and friends. Little touches of your personality help you stay focused on the task at hand. You are likely a thoughtful and relaxed person. You are also probably independent and find strength in alone time. However, you enjoy quality time with your roommate and love bonding with them.
As the mid-term season approaches and the campus collectively locks in, pay attention to the study spots around you. Most of us have spots that we find comfort in and will never abandon, but many this time around switch it up. Happy studying and good luck!
