With the falling of leaves comes the release of a lot of new content, both in the film industry and on streaming platforms. Below are some of the best recent releases and upcoming premieres!
“Regretting You”
For the readers, Colleen Hoover’s second movie adaptation is set to hit the screens this Friday Oct. 24. Starring American sweetheart Mckenna Grace beside “The Black Phone” and “How To Train Your Dragon” lead Mason Thames, this love story follows blossoming romance in the context of loss and rediscovery after devastation. The first of three movies set to release in the next year centered around Hoover’s work, this film is worth a watch for any romance lover!
“Wicked: For Good”
Find out if you are the “The one the wizard has been waiting for” on Nov. 21 as Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo sing towards the western sky for the final part of the Wizard of Oz prequel. Approximately one year after the release of the first part, Wicked lovers have been waiting anxiously to see how the story unfolds. Junior Emily Lamoureux shares her anticipation, “I was a big fan of the first movie, so I am very excited to see what they do with the second part. At first I was unsure how I felt about them dividing the story into two movies, but after learning that they’ve added new music and scenes, I am excited to see how it turns out!”
“Frankenstein (2025)”
Guillermo del Toro takes on Mary Shelley’s classic gothic novel in his 2025 adaptation of “Frankenstein.” Jacob Elordi harnesses the role of Frankenstein’s Monster beside Oscar Isaac’s Victor Frankenstein and Mia Goth’s Elizabeth Lavenza. Coming to Netflix on Nov. 7, this is a must watch for anyone who loves “Euphoria” and classic literature.
“Black Phone 2”
Horror lovers have been dialed in for Mason Thame and Ethan Hawke’s “Black Phone 2”. Continuing the horrors, the devilish mask lurks in the nightmares of every viewer. Released on Oct. 17 catch the movie in theatres now, if you dare!
“The Runarounds”
For those who love teen drama, “The Runarounds” may be a familiar name from the teen adventure drama that took the internet by storm in 2020 “Outer Banks.” Following a group of recent high school graduates in Wilmington, NC, the misfit teens form a band centered around their love of music and a wish for something greater in life. Amidst the drama, they each have to figure out who they are and who they want to be as they approach the pressures of adulthood. Released on Sept. 1, the series is streamable now on Amazon Prime Video.
“The Paper”
Oscar Nuñez reprises his role as Oscar Martinez in “The Office” spin-off “The Paper.” Released on Sept. 4, this mockumentary style series follows the same documentary workers that filmed at Dunder Mifflin. Moving their cameras to Toledo Ohio to capture the declining “Toledo Truth Teller,” Domhnall Gleeson portrays the new editor-in-chief hoping to return the paper to its former glory. “House of Guinness”
Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge and Emily Fairn star in the new Netflix series set in 1868 Dublin. After the death of Benjamin Guinness, the four children of the Guinness family hold the fate of the brewery in their hands. Drama ensues as they deal with the consequences of their father’s demise. Released on Sept. 25 those who enjoy Irish history would love this series!
“Monster: The Ed Gein Story”
Frankenstein is not the only monster hitting the screens this fall. “Monster: The Ed Gein Story” released its third and arguably most grotesque season on Oct. 3. Following the story of serial killer Ed Gein as portrayed by Charlie Hunnam, the series is the perfect bingeable show for any true crime enthusiast.
