A combination of remixed songs, lifelong friends and a seabreeze nearby the shore makes for a memorable night. At Fairfield University, you can find just that at The Seagrape, our very own beach bar, which is a popular place for seniors living by the coastline. They say that “the people make the place,” which is true for the Seagrape, which is not just known for its upbeat music, but also the person behind the tunes: resident DJ and cycling instructor Peter G.
Peter G, better known as @djonabike on social media, has become a well-known member of the Fairfield community over the last five years. Despite spending the past five years in Fairfield, Peter G shared that his career started in his early 20s in collaboration with his brother Fred, who eventually became a DJ in Coney Island. It all began with some freestyle and house music, along with beginner equipment.
Now, about 35 years later, Peter G has taken all his experiences to create his very own melody: “The Seagrape Nights Song.” Writing lyrics that specifically highlight the people that make “The Seagrape Nights” happen like “Eddie, Tim, Ainsley, Diego, Juli and Jaquan” and “Victor and Issac” who are “keepin’ us safe,” the song was released on Oct. 27, right before Halloween at the Grape.
Peter G was inspired by a student named Verlo, who graduated a few years ago. Verlo curated the first song referencing the Seagrape, which Peter G had a spotlight voiceover on.
Peter G has been enjoying remixing country songs for the class of 2026. Infiltrating honky-tonk tunes and all things referring to the Grape, he created a song that offers just that energy. Using an AI music app called Mureka, he wrote the lyrics but the app produced a singer and background music based on his requests. Peter G admitted that it took him over 30 times to find the right vibes for his song.
“Music is everything to me,” Peter G said. “I play music when I train clients, teach indoor cycling classes and DJ private events. Music brings people together, motivates, inspires and when you play the right tunes, people sing, dance and experience great joy.”
The positive feedback to “The Seagrape Nights Song” has encouraged him to think about possibly writing more Fairfield-associated songs in the future.
“I wasn’t expecting it to be a country song,” Junior Shea Burns said. “I actually did hear this in the Grape live. It is definitely a celebration of our community.”
Peter G has already added his new beat to his spin classes, specifically his country music theme cycle, which has been a cheerful addition to the workout classes. As of Nov. 3, Peter G made another AI song called “Back to the Grape,” making it his second debut song, this time being a house song with synth rhythms.
Whether you are a senior and can enjoy hearing “The Seagrape Nights Song” live at the Grape or are a younger Stag and listening to it has made you excited for fun times in the future during senior year, Peter G’s new song makes for good memories with college friends. Stream “The Seagrape Nights Song” on SoundCloud and check out the IMLeagues app for the “Fitness and Wellness” schedule to sign up for an energetic spin class with Peter G.
