Fairfield Foodie Days have officially commenced as of March 25 and will continue until the 27. Red and white posters outside of the Tully and around campus have been recently displayed, promoting that students, faculty, staff and alumni have access to discounts and other promotions at food and drink establishments around the town of Fairfield. In order to receive these discounts, members of the University community must present a stag-card or be representing the school by wearing an article of Fairfield gear.
An event that took place last year the 37 restaurants members of the Fairfield community had a choice of attending has increased to 48 and counting.
“The restaurants were pleased with the turnout,” Associate Director of Community and Public Relations Robby Piazzaroli states when asked about participation levels last year. “We hope to see even greater engagement this year from students, faculty, staff, and alumni.”
Although there are no projected levels of engagement for this year’s event, the event website listing promotions has received nearly 5,000 hits as of March 25, suggesting strong interest from the Fairfield community.
All local food and drink establishments are encouraged to participate. Businesses not listed for the town’s official restaurant week as well as smaller businesses are also included in this promotion.
“The primary goal is to drive business to local food and drink establishments during a typically slower period—after the winter season but before the busier outdoor dining months” Piazzaroli explains, emphasizing that “To ensure all business can benefit, we allow flexibility in the types of deals offered, enabling more restaurants to participate without compromising their bottom line.”
According to the event website, some of the more popular discounts are 16% off at 16 Handles, 10% off at Akita Hibachi and Sushi, Chip City’s scoop of ice cream and a cookie for $8 and Just Salad’s $5 meals.
“I am super excited about the Fairfield foodie discounts because I am a big fan of the dining locations in town, and this gives me an excuse to go this week. I am particularly excited about the discount at 16 Handles, which gives 16% off for Fairfield students,” sophomore Emily Lamoureux states.
In the future, Fairfield University is hoping to continue this event “as long as it receives strong participation from students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Future changes will depend on feedback and the needs of both the participants and the businesses.” Piazzaroli states.
