The hallway carpet in Loyola Hall is being replaced over Thanksgiving break on the third and second floors.
On Oct. 31, Residence Life sent an email to Loyola students informing them of the upcoming renovation. The email stated that they are doing the replacement to “…maintain and improve the living environment in Loyola Hall.”
Last week, The Mirror reported on students conducting their own mold testing using petri dishes provided by their parents because of suspected mold after the flooding. The Mirror has not been able to independently verify the presence of mold. However, Reem Kharbouch, a Resident Assistant who lives in Loyola, says that students have been complaining about the smell of the carpets since the water damage happened.
According to the email from Residence Life, the replacement is being done in response to the sprinkler incident that happened on Oct. 20.
The Mirror contacted university officials regarding the reason behind the flooding. Jennifer Anderson, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, stated that “a student playing sports in the third-floor north hallway of Loyola Hall accidentally damaged a sprinkler head.”
Residence Life encourages students to email mlake@fairfield.edu or the Office of Residence Life at residencelife@fairfield.edu if they have any questions or concerns.
