Holiday time is like no other. The traditions, celebrations and gatherings, Christmas lights and baking cookies instantly put people in a holly jolly mood making the world seem brighter! Listening to Christmas music during the holiday season is always my favorite way to start celebrating, and yes I start listening before Thanksgiving. Narrowing down the perfect holiday playlist was tough, but I hope these picks below will make it to your Christmas playlist this season!
Starting off strong, I have an absolute favorite of mine and so many others, “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” by NSYNC. As it is a classic in so many households, it is not always the first song people put on their playlist for the holiday season. With a catchy refrain that puts everyone in the holiday spirit, NSYNC was able to incorporate the best parts of the holiday season into one song. Their holiday album, “Home for Christmas,” released in 1998, featured 14 songs and sold over two million copies and went double platinum so it is safe to say this album is worth the listen.
Elton John has many classic songs and “Step Into Christmas” is an oldie but a goodie! I remember listening to this song on the radio station while in the car as a child and absolutely falling in love with the tune. The song was released as a single, not on a specific holiday album, in 1973 and it has held up for such a long period of time. I definitely recommend listening to this song by Elton.
There is truly no place like home for the holidays, Perry Como said it best! In his song, “(There’s No Place Like) Home for the Holidays” on the album “Greatest Christmas Songs” released in 1999, Perry Como shares what being home for the holidays should entail! I am biased about my love of this song because it mentions my home state, Pennsylvania, “and some homemade pumpkin pie” in the lyrics! It has so much nostalgia attached to my Christmas memories as a child and it will always be one of the tops on my playlist.
Imagine lounging with chestnuts roasting on an open fire… great! Now play “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole, and you will be brought into the Christmas spirit instantly! After being released in 1962, the song is still a holiday favorite for so many and will be hopefully forever. With such beautiful instrumentals in the background of the song, “The Christmas Song” is an absolute classic when it comes to making your Christmas playlist and has a special place in my holiday season.
Last but definitely not least, the final song on my ultimate Christmas playlist is “Last Christmas” by Wham! I think it’s safe to say this song has been and always will be a Christmas staple song for everyone to blast in their car at least a few hundred times during this cold winter. Released as a single in 1984, this catchy tune and amazing vocals draws listeners in to listen to the story of the song and fall in love with it! Safe to say “Last Christmas” will always be on my nice list!
All in all, Christmas music has a special way of bringing joy, happiness and warmth into the holiday season. From cozy nights by the fire to long car rides under twinkling lights, these tracks are perfect for creating memories and celebrating the festive spirit. I hope my ultimate Christmas playlist helps make your holiday season just a little bit brighter and maybe even inspires you to add them to your playlist!
