Fairfield University’s first snowstorm of the semester dumped 15 inches of snow on Sunday, the biggest snowfall in more than four years. The storm, which affected multiple states across the nation, limited campus operations significantly, with only the RecPlex, The Tully and the Library offering services to on-campus students.
The disruption to operations was the first one since Feb. 3, 2025, when an overnight system left two inches of snow on Fairfield. That day, the university instituted a delayed opening.
This time around, the university suspended on-campus services on Sunday and Monday, but some classes met online.
However, while the weather system brought snow and chilling temperatures, students were still seen walking around campus to access food services in the Barone Campus Center.
“The snow is not that bad, the crews [are] doing a really good job making sure that walkways are clear for us,” said junior Ben Tran on Sunday after he attended the morning mass service.
Another student who goes by Emma told The Mirror that the walk to The Tully on Sunday was cold and “a little tough.”
Dan, a student from New Jersey, expressed that while the Garden State “doesn’t get this much snow,” the weekend snow was an exciting opportunity to enjoy the weather with friends.

Following the storm’s passage, crews were seen around campus Sunday night and all day Monday removing snow from roads and sidewalks.
On Tuesday, campus operations resumed as scheduled, with classes and administrative offices back by 8 a.m.
